Pres. George HW Bush from the Greatest Generation

George Herbert Walker Bush shakes hands with crowd at Springfield, Missouri, Airport
It was a pleasure shaking your hand, Mr. President

Kindness passed from Bush 41 to Me in Happenstance

In 1992, I shook the hand of President Herbert Walker Bush when he landed at the airport in Springfield, Missouri, on a campaign stop.

I was one of a crowd who wanted to connect with our President that day, and I was three rows back. Mindful of no one in the crowd but me, I was pushing my arm as close to the President as possible when a complete stranger in front, grabbed me by the wrist and pulled my hand forward, into the hand of President George Walker Bush.

I have no idea who this stranger was, but he gave his opportunity to shake the President’s hand to me.

I never got to say “Thank-You!” to that stranger.

In that way, a stranger passed the kind ways of President Bush to me, in happenstance.
